I know the title seems over-the-top. But sometimes I get the biggest DIY thrill from the smallest projects. Probably because I am always taking on big, big projects. I couldn't help but grin (and maybe giggle a little?) while I made these. They were just so quick and easy and I love how they turned out!
I know I'm late to the paper-punching-party, but I was excited to see paper punches on sale at Michael's for 50% off. I may have bought 2, or 3. OK 4! But they were such a good deal. And so cute. I love me a crisp scalloped edge. The scrapbook paper (some embossed with dots, some sparkly) was also 50% off, so overall, a really cheap project that packs a lot of punch. Pun intended.
Don't be intimidated by the sewing. I have sewed lots and lots of projects. Some easy (like the stockings on the mantel), some medium (like lined drapes) and some kinda hard, like this Belle princess dress I put together for Halloween this year:
I know, so over the top! But she's my only girl. If you can thread a sewing machine and push the pedal , this is the sewing project for you! And if you can't thread a sewing machine, make your friend with a sewing machine do it for you. You can sit and giggle while she does it.
The materials you need to make these are pretty simple--a paper punch, scrapbook paper, a sewing machine, and yarn. I used the yarn to make loops to attach to the first and the last circle on the strand to make it easier to hang.
After you attach the looped yarn to the first circle, then you just feed the paper through the sewing machine, one at time. The thread will just wind itself together between punches, so you can put them as close or as far apart on the thread that you want. I just kind of waited a "bum bum bum bum" and then added the next. That is super technical sewing-paper technology for "a couple seconds". I made 6 or so of the garland in varying lengths and then strung them in front of my stockings and in a couple little mini trees on the mantel.
I think they turned out super cute! And sew easy. Sorry, I just couldn't leave that pun out. Just too obvious. Merry Christmas!!
Oh My Gosh -this is so dang cute! Looks so festive! Totally worth all those loud and totally obnoxious noises each and every time you'd punch a hole. That mantle is to die for! And BTW, dying that you made A's costume - you can buy one at the Disney store you know?
